First Visit -What to expect
An overwhelming majority of patients come to our clinic via referral from family or friends . Making that first appointment can be an anxious moment but it is also the first step towards returning to your daily activities without pain and keeping it that way.
Filling in the form
After making your first appointment, a confirmation of your appointment will be sent to you in the post. With this, will be our ‘Confidential New Patient Registration form’, which we will ask you to fill out and bring along with you to your first appointment. This form includes questions regarding your complaint(s) and basic information, for example name, age, occupation and your medical history, like past accidents and illnesses.
Once you have met your Chiropractor, he/she will discuss the information you have filled in on the form in much more detail with you and will listen to any additional confidential information you might want to share, this will be free of charge.
If we feel after the initial chat, that chiropractic can possibly help you , with your permission, we will begin the initial physical examination. For this you will be requested to undress to your underwear and put on one of our gowns. Following this we will complete a full, professional examination which includes checking your nerves, muscles and joints. Sometimes, parts of the examination might seem irrelevant to your complaint but we may find it additionally necessary to examine other systems in your body like the heart, blood pressure, lungs or abdomen. This ensures us that your complaint is suitable for chiropractic care. We may also use one of our state of the art scanners. The scanning procedures are non-invasive and non- painful, but help in determining the best possible treatment plan leading to the quickest results. These scans are included in the price of an examination.
Explain and Treat
After the initial examination, we will fully explain what we have found in simple, easy-to-understand language, with the aid of models and pictures. You will learn what the reasons are for your pain and discomfort and possible underlying causes. We will also explain what we feel the treatment plan should be and the types of treatments we would like to use. If we are happy with the examination results and feel it is safe to commence, then with your consent, we will begin with the treatment.
We’ll monitoring your progress by making an additional scan (again free of charge) and re-performing tests that we did on the initial exam to see if your spinal mobility has improved.
Chiropractic is a safe, drug–free treatment that can be used to effectively treat the whole family.
On your second visit to the clinic, we’ll give you a comprehensive report of findings on your initial examination. We will explain all our findings and their meanings from your initial examination. You will learn what the reasons are for your pain and discomfort and possible underlying causes. You will receive a personalized copy of our findings, explanatory drawings and possibly home exercises, although these might be added to the treatment plan at a later stage. Additionally, advice might be given related to work or posture. There will be enough time to answer any of your questions or concerns that you might have. By working together we will create an optimal situation for a quick return to health.
Our Myovision system is a neurospinal screening and evaluation system that uses surface electromyography to measure changes of spinal muscles. It was originally developed for NASA and designed to measure changes in the spinal muscles of astronauts.
Our system helps us to identify irritated and dysfunctioning spinal joints by measuring muscle activity. Irritated and dysfunctional spinal joints disturb the muscles regular nerve function, causing an abnormal amount of electrical flow to the muscles. This electrical flow is measured and displayed graphically as shown in the illustration. The system allows for increased accuracy in diagnosis, review of prognosis and improved care.
In addition, the system is used to monitor the patients’ individual progress. You will be able to see the progress that you are making at regular “progress exams”.
The scan is totally non-invasive and does not cause pain or irritation. This makes it totally safe for infants, children, pregnant women or seniors. It simply requires the placement of small probes against the skin, with the test taking less than a few minutes. The scan is used by many chiropractic offices and is the latest, state of the art equipment for this type of spinal assessment.
At Milton Chiropractic Clinic we take a holistic approach.
At Milton Chiropractic Clinic we take a holistic approach. We look at the body as being an interconnected system of specialized parts. The support structure which holds everything together is made up of bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Your feet are the foundation of your body, and if your feet are not properly supported, it can give you problems anywhere from your ankles up to your neck.
The Feet; Engineering Masterpieces
We take our feet for granted but each foot is an engineering masterpiece. The foot is made up of 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. Biomechanical problems affecting the feet can increase stresses within the foot structures and the surrounding soft tissues, creating localized pain in the foot, ankle and also problems in the lower limbs, knees, hips and back. Correction of poor foot biomechanics with Custom Made Orthotics can improve and prevent many types of symptoms such as:
Plantar Fasciitis (pain at the sole of your feet)
Policeman’s Heel (Heel Spur)
During the ‘First visit’ we will check the posture of your feet, looking for problems like flat feet or a difference in leg length. People especially at risk are those who stand or walk on hard surfaces for more than 4 hours daily, wear their shoes unevenly, have knock knees or bow legs, or whose feet “toe out” when they are walking. If we think this attributes to your problem, we will recommend an orthotic scan. This scan doesn’t hurt and only requires you to walk across a pressure plate, which has thousands of tiny sensors embedded in it, capturing the distribution of pressure of your foot over time. From your step, the computer displays 2d and 3d visual representations of the pressure under your foot. You can see where you have too much or too little pressure. The information is then summarized in a report that can be printed for you to see. The information in the report will help determining if you need orthotic therapy. When it is determined that you will benefit from orthotic therapy, your information is sent to a laboratory. From there your custom made orthotics are manufactured specially for you and your feet.
